Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC) held C919 aircraft flight test technology seminar on September 13th, 2016. Mr. Jin Zhuanglong, Chairman and Secretary of the Party Committee of COMAC, and Mr. Wu Guanghui, Vice President of COMAC and Chief Designer of C919 Program, attended the meeting and made a speech respectively.
Ten test pilots, pilots and flight test engineers from Shanghai Aircraft Airworthiness Certification Center of CAAC, China Eastern Airlines, Chinese Flight Test Establishment (CFTE) and COMAC Flight Test Center shared and discussed certification flight test method, flight test technology, flight test management, operational flight test, etc. Mr. Zhao Zhiqiang, Director of Flight Test Office of Shanghai Aircraft Airworthiness Certification Center and Test Pilot of CAAC, gave a lecture titled “Application of HQRM Form in Airworthiness Certification” to introduce the HQRM method, its application and matters needing attention. Mr. Shang Feng, A320 Model Assistant of Airmanship Management Department of China Eastern Airlines, introduced the operational flight test of A320 aircraft of China Eastern Airlines.
“The success of a model of aircraft relies on the close cooperation between the design team and the flight test team,” said Mr. Zhou Xiaoqing, Deputy General Manager of Airmanship Management Department of China Eastern Airlines. “This is a very professional discussion about flight test technology. I can feel that everyone has put a lot of energy into the study in this area.”
Mr. Zhou Zhanting, Chief Flight Test Engineer of CFTE, considered that the seminar covered a broad range of topics, including research and development, flight test, operation, etc., and was instructive.
“The flight test of ARJ21 aircraft lasted for six years. Why? Not just because we have no experience, but because we do not slack off and fully comply with international airworthiness standards. We searched for the cloud meeting the natural icing condition for four year, but finally we failed. We had to complete this flight test in Canada.” Mr. Jin Zhuanglong reviewed the process of flight test of ARJ21 aircraft. The ARJ21 aircraft has completed whole process including design, manufacture, test and flight test, and has entered into commercial operation. Mr. Jin Zhuanglong stressed that the flight test was a very important step during aircraft development, and test pilots, certification test pilots and flight test engineers formed an important team of civil aircraft development. The development of test pilot team should be further strengthened to comprehensively improve the civil aircraft flight test capability of China. The capability construction of Flight Test Center should be accelerated and the 1+N layout should be vigorously promoted to provide bases for the flight tests in different meteorological conditions. Cooperation with CFTE, Civil Aviation University of China, Civil Aviation Flight University of China and other related domestic institutions should be strengthened to fully draw experiences and learn lessons from the flight test of ARJ21 aircraft. Cooperation with airline companies should be strengthened to fully understand the customers’ need. International cooperation should be strengthened to establish contact with flight test institutes in United States, South Africa and other countries. Construction of test pilot team and training of test pilots should be also strengthened to continuously improve the capability of test pilots and vigorously train the team made up of learning-oriented, intelligent, skilled, brave and practical test pilots.
Mr. Jin Zhuanglong expressed that the development of C919 aircraft had already entered into a critical period, and C919 aircraft had become the focus of CPC Central Committee，the whole nation and the world. Everyone should keep the mission in mind, make joint effort, well organize, elaborately command and carefully implement the work, be cooperative and be brave to be responsible, stick to the purpose of “All out for model, all around the model and all to serve the model”, take problem-solving as the guidance, and find, analyze and solve the problem as early as possible to ensure the safety of products, tests and personnel.
Mr. Wu Guanghui expressed gratitude to representatives participating in the meeting for their comments and suggestions about the flight test technology of aircraft. He said that all the work related to the flight test of C919 aircraft was pushed forward in an orderly way, and the content of the discussion would be helpful to the future flight test of airworthiness certification of the aircraft. The design team of C919 aircraft would strengthen the communication with the flight test team to further optimize the design and win the battle of first flight of C919 aircraft.
Heads of China Eastern Airlines, Shanghai Aircraft Airworthiness Certification Center and CFTE, related departments of COMAC headquarters, Shanghai Aircraft Customer Service Co., Ltd. and Flight Test Center attended the meeting.
